Detailed description
The app
iRuleThem for iPhone/iPod touch/iPad is an unique environment for Hold'em Poker. It's usable for any table size. A simulation determines a hand's value/strength/equity (odds, %, probability) against a distinct amount of opponents with known/unknown hole cards or starting hand ranges (for up to 6 opponents). Everything is evidence-based with an empirical approach. This means the app relies on random experiments instead of static calculations. The app is designed with the pure intention to uncover everything important behind playing Poker professionally.'The internal logic and overall consistence is approving the True Nature of Poker...'
The app is very fast and carefully designed in HD for Retina-Displays. The user interface is optimized for precise touch input. A running simulation gets instantly aborted after touching the simulation activity indicator. Furthermore entering the configuration to adjust a setting, or make an opponent stronger, also aborts a simulation running aside. After the home button is tapped on a running simulation it stops the same way. Nevertheless all the work that has been done until such event of cancelation is displayed in a proper way.
Every setting is well documented and easy to use. Most settings can also be defined by using speech commands. For non-native speakers of English, there's also a learning program for finding out how to pronounce. After knowing the app it's perfectly suited to play Online Poker, (re)configure any game detail and use the results for decisions in real time. This instrument will allow a better understanding of the game for all poker fanatics, aficionados and students of the game.
After setting up some cards and defining your opponents - your ready to go. Simply press the simulate button and the app shows its magic...
"√ Simulate your reality!"
Playing for value means that your chance to hold the finest 5-card poker hand must be acceptable. Therefore doing numerous tries would increase your stack. It's the connection between your relative strength (hand value/fold equity) and the pot odds. The pot odds are the ratio between the pot-size (the amount you might win) and the bet-size (the bet you might loose). Seen together in comparison with the probability of winning they're describing if playing your hand has a positive or negative expectation in the long term. When the decision is to raise the bet to at least 3 times the Big Blind the fold equity becomes important. The fold equity is the supposed or evaluated chance that everyone gives up his hand after facing your substantial bet. With this option there're two ways of winning: contested or uncontested. It's important to understand that it increases the user's overall success expectation for raising cases. This anticipation is labeled success within the pot odds raise analysis (ratio pot to raising bet).A simulation can be used against up to 9 realistic opponents. It reads every possible draw or 5-card poker hand an opponent with unknown hole cards might be on. For each of them it warns you instantly by displaying its specific combination symbol and afterwards calculating its occurrence probability. Followed by about 3000 random tries in which the app checks winnings, draw endings and losses. There are always two winning positions, with values shown primarily based on either drawing or not-drawing any further community cards. During a simulation process the results that have been done so far are incrementally displaying. That means you wait just a tick and you receive automatically the first version of the odds you're waiting some time longer for. You're also able to see the diagrams during a simulation running aside. After simulating you can define your pot odds and receive a hint if calling/raising with your hand is lucrative in the long term. More informative is the Expected Value (EV) because it shows the average value gain (+EV) or value loss (-EV) of the next betting round. For the use case Call the max. bet size is given, using the given pot it leads to neither to winning nor to loosing your money (0ev Call).
- win(pos0) is without drawing any additional community cards
- win(pos1) is drawing the face-up community cards of the following stage
- Draw ends/wins shows the relative share of draws in all positive outcomes
Notice:
iRuleThem has been designed to fit the demands of real-time usage during online poker sessions!
"√ Visualize your reality!"
The visualization checks the outcome of a single game (e.g. AKs checks the flop). The Single Deal Mode therefore resolves the reached poker hand for everyone involved including the winner. Using the evaluation repeatedly updates the existing statistics by the result of each try. It's possible to use/fold an unknown starting hand what gives you the ability of developing an intuitive feeling for your chances/risks. Besides that you can study your own financial progress, stage related game stats and starting hand range. The Single Deal Mode is appropriate to learn how to play your given hole cards the strongest possible way. Beside that it's perfectly suited to learn how to play an unknown starting hand against a specific type of opponent (loose/tight). It gives you a feeling how probable different 5-card hand combinations really occur, and when the dealt board cards have killed your own hand.
Additionally using the Single Deal Mode evolves your understanding and your intuitive feeling for anything significant. This includes very advanced topics like fold equity and deciphering hand ranges by using made hand specifications. It's working like a hand filter and can be used multiple times for further narrowing the hand requirements during the progression of the game (related to the opponent's characteristics, as well as stage-related wagering). By using this mode you can check through all the opponent's hands you expect to run against (according to the specification). Last but not least, this mode is a nice tool after your poker session to analyze all the key hands from your hand history in greater depth.
Practice and Improve:
"Because the Single Deal Mode perfectly mirrors the reality of poker ...
... it's a powerful tool to learn how to play!"
User Interface
Offering input via either the custom produced interface or specific voice controls iRuleThem can provide in-depth evaluation quicker than general speed-of-play, consequently permitting fanatics of the game to acquire a better understanding of game dynamics in a selection of situations, even during online gameplay. The graphical user interface is perfectly adapted for fast and precise use and further reuse. All relevant poker simulation settings like the flop cards remain stored for reusing with the same or a changed configuration. That makes it possible to synchronize the App with your Online-Poker Game to support your decision process. It's required that you're already familiar with the app functionality... But thanks to the easy to use interface, the logical program concept and the extensive documentation, it's done fast. Furthermore there is an overview of every usable voice command.
Indication Symbols
There are symbols indicating possible draws and 5-card poker hands of unknown hole cards together with the community cards given. Right after pressing the simulate button they are showing you all already made hand combinations. The black highlighted icon is your own reached poker hand combination. Each indication symbol is touchable. After touching it shows the occurrence probability/odds of that specific hand combination type. After each simulation a dynamically generated dollar sign shows the probability to win by use of its changing background color. It's touchable and leads to the decision support screen with the pot odds analyzer.Time to wait is time to decide
Here it's all about the app performance and precsision. Basically speaking of the time to get the equity of winning. The given data for each simulation scenarios is the result of 5000 random tries (experiments) on 5 different iOS devices. Therefore you receive the equity before and after drawing the following of community cards and are able to analyze the precision of the winning position by comparing with another device. Right below are the 4 simulation setups to measure the overall simulation runtime of each device; as well as the duration until the first results are displayed. Each device was at the begin loaded up to 100%, and then unplugged from the power source before simulating. In addition beside iRuleThem v4.0 no other app was running. This first results -- also creating the diagrams -- were in every case enough precise for a real-time decision.

Notice:
On an iPad Gen. 2 and an iPad Mini with a 1GHz dual-core CPU the overall simulation duration is the same. The iPhone 4S/iPod Touch Gen. 5 need only slightly more time because they offer a reduced 800MHz dual-core CPU clock. On these 4 first-mentioned devices everything is about 2 times faster done compared to the iPhone 3GS. These 4 devices offer, with a dual-core CPU, a noticable better performance smoother responsiveness. Another a bit out-dated but faster device is the iPod Touch Gen. 4, which offers a single-core CPU clocked at 800MHz.
Opponent Hole Cards and Hand Ranges
A configuration setting is to only run against the best ranked starting hands which are dealt at a multi player table. Otherwise it has the ability to detect an opponent's strength (ideal starting hand range). Therefore the Tap'Counter has to be used to keep tack of the amount of played/raised opponent hands compared to the overall number of received hands. The ranges are working like a barrier saying that the drawn starting hand has to be better/equal or worse/equal than the given. That makes them easy to understand and very fast to use.The 'hidden' elements of Poker are well uncovered by using the Tap'Counter. It's a very powerful pre-flop tool to observe your opponents' characteristics to conclude your best move. The Tap'Counter shows you how likely your opponent will fold his cards after facing a bet that is at least 3 times the Big Blind. Otherwise it unveils your opponent's potential holdings when he's raising or calling the bet.
Furthermore iRuleThem has a made hand specification that enables filtering the 5-card poker hand combinations of already reached opponent's hands (e.g. at least top Pair/medium Kicker). When such a made hand specification has been declared for every remaing opponent, iRuleThem concludes the fold equity for that specific situation. With other words it evaluates the chance that nobody has received a made hand and therefore isn't prepared to call your raising bet. Of corse that wagering has to be substantially enough to force them to give up their hands (e.g. pot-sized).
Diagrams lead to Math understanding
Have no fear of math! With this application you don't need to understand the probability theory or any other complicated math. That's because all results are interpreted and also shown as diagrams. The simulation process generates an overall success bar diagram/a bar diagram for every 5-card poker hand combination and a pie chart for all these hand combinations together. Each of these diagrams is showing exact ratios between success and failure. More green than red means a greater chance to win and survive. More yellow than green might be a shared win. They are showing not only how expectable a hand combination is but also your success rate with it.When you can't take advantage of probabilities/odds you should enter the Single Deal Mode and visualize your hand's reality. Step-by-Step you're going thorough everything important and earn some background knowledge for those numbers, which are describing your hand's perspective. Beside that, it evolves your understanding and your intuitive feeling for anything significant of your scenario of interest.
